You will leave Marrakech behind and cross the High Atlas Mountains before visiting the UNESCO-listed Aït Ben Haddou. From there, the route continues through Ouarzazate, the Valley of Roses, Dades Valley, and Todra Gorge before reaching the Sahara.
The highlight is your two-night stay in the Merzouga desert area. Instead of arriving at the dunes and immediately leaving the following morning, you have a full day to experience the region.
You can ride camels across Erg Chebbi, watch the sunset and sunrise, meet a nomadic family, listen to Gnawa music in Khamlia, explore desert landscapes by 4×4, and try optional activities such as sandboarding or quad biking.

The day starts with an early pickup in Marrakech, and the scenery changes fast once the road begins climbing into the High Atlas Mountains. You’ll cross the Tizi n’Tichka Pass at 2,260 meters, one of the most dramatic mountain roads in Morocco, with stops along the way to photograph Berber villages, terraced valleys and sweeping panoramas. From there, the route continues to Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage kasbah that once served caravan routes crossing the Sahara — a walk through its narrow lanes brings its architecture and history to life. The journey then passes through Ouarzazate, the palm-filled Skoura oasis and the fragrant Valley of Roses before reaching Dades Valley by evening, where you’ll settle in for the night surrounded by dramatic rock formations and quiet countryside.
After breakfast, the road winds through Dades Valley’s traditional villages, palm groves and striking rock formations on the way to Todra Gorge, where towering limestone cliffs rise on either side of a narrow canyon. A short walk between the rock walls gives time for photographs before continuing through Tinjdad and Erfoud, a region known for its fossils and date palms. As the landscape turns increasingly dry and golden, the dunes of Erg Chebbi come into view on the horizon. By afternoon, a camel trek carries you into the Sahara itself, crossing the dunes as the sun sets over the desert. Afterward, a 4×4 excursion heads out across the Merzouga region to visit a local nomadic family, offering a genuine look at their traditions, hospitality and daily adaptation to desert life. From there, the route continues through the Draa Valley, where palm groves and desert scenery unfold for miles, before reaching Ouarzazate. The final stretch climbs back over the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, with further scenic viewpoints along the way to take in Morocco’s shift from desert plains to mountain terrain one last time. You’ll arrive in Marrakech by evening, where your driver drops you at your accommodation, closing out four days of desert, mountains and culture.
