4 days Marrakech to Fes desert tour Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Aït Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley

    Approx. 320 km, 6–7 hours

Your 4 days Marrakech to Fes desert tour starts in Marrakech, and before long, the city is behind you as the road climbs into the High Atlas Mountains. The scenery changes quickly, with deep valleys, traditional villages, and rugged peaks appearing along the way. At 2,260 meters, the Tizi n’Tichka Pass offers plenty of reasons to stop and enjoy the views. From there, continue to Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO-listed ksar built from earth and clay that feels even more impressive in person. Take your time exploring its narrow passages before heading toward Ouarzazate. Afterward, this private Morocco desert tour continues through the Skoura palm groves and Valley of Roses, passing old kasbahs, green fields, and small villages. By late afternoon, you’ll reach Dades Valley. Settle into your hotel or riad, enjoy dinner, and rest after a full first day.

Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga – Sahara Desert

    Approx. 270 km, 4–5 hours

After breakfast, your Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour continues toward the Sahara, with the landscape becoming drier as you travel farther south. Before reaching the desert, stop at Todra Gorge, where massive rock walls rise on both sides of the valley. A short walk beside the river gives you time to stretch your legs and enjoy the scenery. From there, continue through Tinjdad and Erfoud, a region known for dates and fossils. As Merzouga gets closer, the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi begin to appear on the horizon. Once you arrive, meet your camel guide and ride into the Sahara as the sun sets across the dunes. This is one of the most memorable moments of the Marrakech to Fes desert tour. Later, arrive at camp for dinner and traditional music before settling into your desert tent for a peaceful night beneath the stars.

Day 3: Merzouga Desert – Nomadic Families – Khamlia – Erg Chebbi

Approx. 40–70 km, 2–3 hours of local/off-road driving

An early morning is worth it for the sunrise over Erg Chebbi, when the first light brings out the changing colors of the dunes. After breakfast, your Merzouga desert tour takes you by 4×4 beyond the main dunes to discover another side of the Sahara. Along the way, visit a nomadic family, share a glass of tea, and hear about everyday desert life through a genuine local conversation. From there, continue to Khamlia, a small village where Gnawa musical traditions remain an important part of the community. Local musicians share their rhythms and the stories behind them. Depending on the season, your Erg Chebbi desert tour may also include other viewpoints around the dunes. Quad biking or buggy rides can be arranged for those looking for extra adventure. Afterward, the afternoon is yours to relax and simply enjoy the silence and open landscapes of the Sahara.

    Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Cedar Forest – Ifrane – Fes

    Approx. 470 km, 7–8 hours

The final day of your 4 days Marrakech to Fes desert tour is a longer journey, so an early breakfast helps. Leaving Merzouga behind, travel through Rissani before reaching the beautiful Ziz Valley. Along the way, stop at a panoramic viewpoint overlooking thousands of palm trees surrounded by dry mountains. From there, continue toward Midelt and climb into the Middle Atlas Mountains, where the desert scenery gradually changes into greener valleys and forests. Near Azrou, there’s time to stop in the cedar forest, where Barbary macaques are often seen among the trees. Afterward, continue to Ifrane, a quiet mountain town known for its parks and distinctive architecture. Following a short break, the road leads onward to Fes. By late afternoon, your driver will drop you at your riad or hotel, bringing your journey from Marrakech through the Sahara and across the Middle Atlas to an end.

Great trip and experience An Unforgettable Family Adventure in Morocco with Adi 🇲🇦❤️ Our 6-day trip through Morocco with Adi was truly one of the best vacations our family has ever experienced! We traveled as a group of 9 — two families with 4 kids — and from Marrakech to Merzouga and the Sahara, every day brought something new and unforgettable. What made the trip especially meaningful was that we were celebrating my daughter’s 15th birthday, and Adi helped make it a celebration she will remember for the rest of her life. We had so many amazing experiences: riding camels through the Sahara, sandboarding on the dunes, enjoying endless Moroccan tea, exploring Marrakech, and learning about the history, traditions, food, and culture of Morocco. But beyond the activities, what really made the trip special was the way Adi took care of our group. He made us feel comfortable, welcome, and truly immersed in the Moroccan experience. Traveling with 9 people, including 4 kids, could easily have been complicated, but Adi made everything feel smooth and enjoyable. He was patient, knowledgeable, friendly, and always made sure everyone was having a great time. “This is something our families will remember forever.” If you are considering a trip to Morocco, especially with family or a group, I highly recommend traveling with Adi. He didn’t just show us Morocco — he helped us experience it. Thank you, Adi, for an incredible adventure and for helping us create memories that will last a lifetime! 🇲🇦🐪🏜️☕❤️ 10/10 — an experience we would happily do all over again!

Not worth it, there are better options The quad bikes are new and great overall, but the guides were 13 year old children and they didn’t understand any english or even french. The ride itself wasn’t very exciting, we were riding at 10-15 km/h for the whole hour which was uncomfortable in the 40 degree celsius heat in the evening. For the money, I would recommend taking a 4x4 pick up/suv ride in the dunes with a guide instead. This was a waste of money for us.
